Last year I didn't keep a list of movies I watched throughout the year, and I ended up forgetting half of what I saw (whoops). So, this year's movie list ends rather ubruptly... Sorry about that!
Anyways, this was started to help me keep track of what I had seen, and also give my thoughts on the movies. I'll keep these mini reviews to a 3 sentence maximum length, and I won't give any spoilers!
[Jan 02] Kiss The Girls (1997) ★★★☆☆
My coworker suggested I watch this movie, since I'm into thrillers and suspense movies. It wasn't anything to really write home about, but it was something to watch. At least Cary Elwes was in it!
[Jan 02] The Gray Man (2022) ★★★☆☆
While I kept seeing so many good things about this movie, it kinda fell flat for me. Again, it was something to watch, and Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas are great! But I feel like this was trying to be a John Wick, when it wasn't.
[Jan 03] Along Came A Spider (2001) ★★★★☆
The sequel to Kiss The Girls, which I watched the day before. I gotta say, I liked this one better than the first one. Also, baby Anton Yelchin is in this, and it was so shocking seeing him as a baby *cries*
[Jan 03] The Menu (2022) ★★★★☆
I'd been wanting to watch this ever since I heard about it! While I didn't like Anya's character, I did like the meaning of the movie, and I thought a lot of scenes were funny. I also really wanted a burger after this!
[Jan 08] The Green Butchers (2003) ★★★☆☆
I'm glad I got to see some of Mads Mikkelsen's early work (he looked so funny in this!) But I was expecting more comedy in this Danish black comedy about cannibalism than what we got... It was just alright.
[Jan 08] Jurassic World Dominion (2022) ★★★★☆
I'll be 100% honest with you, I wasn't giving this movie my full attention when I watched it like I should have. However, what I can remember about it was that most of the old actors are back, which was fun, and the movie was a HELL of a lot better than the second one!
[Jan 10] One Hour Photo (2002) ★★★★☆
It has been MANY years since I last saw this movie, so I wanted to watch it again. I actually love Robin Williams in his more serious / creepy roles, because I thought he did everything so well. This movie is sad, but really good and watching him at work gives me PTSD from working in an "artsy department" at a big-chain retail store.
[Jan 19] Possession (1981) ★★★★☆
Finally I got to see this movie after so many years of waiting for it to come to a streaming service! I love the cinematography, the way the characters act so overexaggerated as well (it's all so disorienting). And seeing Sam Neill young was so weird, but he was so cute!
[Jan 21] Isolation (2005) ★★☆☆☆
This movie was just meh. Honestly, I think I got it confused for a different movie, because I thought this was more modern and was about something totally different. Anyways, it was kinda boring, but so far I haven't found many Irish-made movies I'm into (sadly)
[Jan 27] M3GAN (2022) ★★★★★
I was expecting to like this movie, but not expecting to love it as much as I did! I mean this movie was good and definitey has the makings of a new-era Chucky. I am so happy they're making a sequel!
[Jan 28] Housebound (2014) ★★★★★
This was a great New Zealand horror movie made by the same guy who made M3GAN. I remember trying to watch it years ago and didn't have the attention span for it, but I'm glad I gave it a try this time. I really enjoyed it and it worked, even with the Kiwi humor.
[Jan 31] Fresh (2022) ★★★★☆
Sebastian Stan doesn't look 40 years old, but I still hate the huge age-gaps between male and female MCs in film (it weirds me out). This reminded me of American Mary, even though the plotlines are very different. Since I've seen The Gray Man and this now, I wanna see a movie where Sebastian and Chris play unhinged psychos together (just no Avengers stuff please)!
[Feb 10] Through The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) ★★★★☆
I'd been wanting to watch this moie for a while since I didn't know too much about Tammy Faye Bakker. Jessica Chastain was great in this role and it's hilarious seeing D'Onofrio's portrayel of Falwell Sr. (what a horrible man)! Anyways, I felt bad for her, but I think I may have a new fashion icon, she was so unique and gaudy!
[Feb 12] I, Tonya (2017) ★★★★☆
This was a pretty good movie. I never knew anything about Tonya Harding, and honestly I always thought she hit the other girl in the legs herself. I feel kinda bad for her!
[Feb 12] Orphan (2009) ★★★★☆
We had to watch this one because my husband had never seen it and didn't know anything about it. I'd like to watch the prequel, but I hear it isn't that great. Either way, the husband of this family kinda had what was coming to him!
[Feb 15] Kingsman:The Secret Service (2014) ★★★★☆
I finally got to watch this series! It was a really fun movie, although I didn't know it was going to be so inappropriate! I also had no idea these were based off comics, but it makes sense (they're ridiculous!)
[Feb 15] Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) ★★★★☆
The villain in this one was more cartoonish than the last, but I kinda dug her. I was NOT expecting so many people to die in this one (wow). I hope they make a fourth one!
[Feb 15] The King's Man (2021) ★★★☆☆
Definitely not as good as the two main title entries. I didn't care much for the characters, or the backstory in general. Rhys Ifans as Rasputin was pretty cool though.
[Feb 18] The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) ★★★★★
This movie was so delightful! It's only the 2nd Wes Anderson movie I've ever watched, but it was so cute. I loved the storyline, and I loved Ralph Fiennes in this role.
[Feb 18] Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022) ★★★★☆
Wow, I've never actually liked Pinocchio, but this version was so much better than Disney's! It gave a dark twist to the story, and made it better. I loved the Blue Angel and the Angel of Death.
[Feb 25] The French Dispatch (2021) ★★☆☆☆
Okay, while I loved The Grand Budapest Hotel, this movie was too all over the place for me and confused me to death. I couldn't keep up with what was going on, and overall the story wasn't that fantastic. Hopefully the next Anderson movie I watch will be better!
[March 04] Possessor (2020) ★★★★☆
When I saw this was by the son of David Cronenberg (Brandon), I had to watch it. Minus Sean Bean, I'd never seen any of these actors before, and I really liked it (although I had a "Mandela Effect" moment when we saw Donald Sutherland's son in this and both my husband and I were convinced Donald had died a few years ago). Anyways, it wasn't very fast-paced, but it was interesting for sure.
These next movies are ones I don't remember the date of watching (except for like 3 of them), since I haven't been good at keeping up with this list. I've been so busy and mostly just mindlessly watched these after coming home from a long day at work... If I remember more movies I've watched during this time, I'll add em here. Eventually I might actually review them too. Who knows!
